This RIBA-award-winning building was described as an education in exceptional design’ and IG Masonry Support was proud to play its part.

The project, for The Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea, replaced a Victorian school building and the challenge was to create a sustainable building that met the demands of an 80m x 40m, dense urban site.

The design involved cascading ‘garden terraces’, which provide the children with external play areas they can access from the classrooms. IG Masonry Support was instructed to supply the B.O.S.S.® (Brick on Soffit System), as well as the Welded Masonry Support and brick-cutting service.

Three bullseye windows required a single course of glazed green brick slips to surround each opening. This created a distinct and colourful feature, as well as increasing the reflection of light into the building.

IG Masonry Support manufactured and supplied two variations of these bullseyes and the B.O.S.S.® was also ordered to achieve long spans of complex brick soffits on each floor of the development. Using bricks from the site, the IG Masonry Support team carefully bonded pistol slips to the stainless steel backing systems, ensuring colour and texture remained consistent with the building.

The finished glazed brick elements dramatically enhance the façade, while the B.O.S.S.® units enabled the contractor to achieve continuous brick soffits, with complex bond patterns.
