The restoration and transformation of Victorian brick railway viaducts and the creation of five new buildings as part of an award-winning, mixed-use development adjacent to the historic Borough Market in London required an exceptional level of detail and brickwork authenticity.

IG Masonry Support was up for the challenge and worked closely with Lesterose Builders Ltd to design and supply complex prefabricated brickwork elements, including Welded Masonry Support, Brick Slip Masonry Support, and the innovative B.O.S.S.+ (Brick on Soffit System) across the five buildings.

There were some challenging elements on the project, including four gigantic ‘spearheads’ on building 2, manufactured with the B.O.S.S.+, glass-reinforced concrete and hand-laid brickwork in-between.

Building 4 also required a bespoke ‘floating’ brick feature presenting a jagged design. Using the IG Masonry Support Brick Slip Masonry Support system helped to achieve the distinctive angled soffit design, offering a flawless and historic aesthetic in a modern, easy-to-install solution.

The bricks used for some of the buildings on the project had a weaker composition and this necessitated pre-pointing the brick slips in dry, controlled conditions to create a high-quality, finished surface.
