Smartroof isn’t just for residential properties. This exciting garden centre project in Essex demonstrated that the unique and prefabricated Smartroof system is also an exceptional choice for commercial schemes.

The construction of Claremont Garden Centre in Woodham Mortimer was the first time Smartroof had been specified for the commercial sector. It was also the first time we had installed our roofing system to a steel portal frame instead of masonry. Our design and technical team worked closely with architectural firm Acanthus and client English Auberge to adapt Smartroof for this new multi-use garden centre building.

Key to its success was understanding the client’s vision and design requirements from the outset. Once the team received the initial designs, they used their engineering and construction knowhow to analyse the building’s steel structure in detail and to set out how Smartroof could be incorporated seamlessly.

These were the largest panelised roof panels to date – each was 13m in length – the rigorous, precise planning ensured a smooth process in the manufacturing, transport and installation stages.

The result? A stunning new café, office, staff room, and greenhouse – and a revolution in the possibilities of modern commercial construction.
