Smartroof helped to change the way that HMS Works approached this project.

When HMS Works was planning the £5.1 million redevelopment of the former Allerton Fire and Police Station, in Allerton, Liverpool, into an affordable housing development, it sought greener, faster building methods.

Smartroof offered the ideal solution. The offsite modular room in roof system ticked all the boxes for HMS and developer Torus. Not only is the roof system more sustainable, it also saved onsite construction time and reduced costs.

.

It was not without its challenges. A typical Smartroof system is 100m² in size, but the Allerton project was 2,500m² and included both refurbishment and new-build elements. This meant working with the existing structure of the building.

The Smartroof design and contracts team conducted multiple site visits to verify that the design met specifications and to confirm the feasibility of the complex, high-performance roof system — which proved successful.

Allerton is the second large-scale refurb and new build project HMS has undertaken and as a team, we were keen to implement learnings from previous developments in order to progress the build quickly, yet efficiently. Smartroof and their team offered a complete solution that not only saved us time but embedded greener technologies into the heart of our development programme and one which is now leading the way for how we use innovative build techniques going forward.
