SIPS (structural insulated panels)
Glosford SIPS proved to be the ideal solution for a unique building that had ambitious sustainability credentials.
The design of Fuggles Pocket, a detached two-storey private home nestling in 20 acres of rural Worcestershire, was inspired by the hop kilns that once peppered the local landscape. To obtain planning permission, the owner and architect had to submit plans of the highest quality.
Warren Benbow Architects proposed a building comprising three hop kilns that were set at different levels and angles to each other, and ranged in height from 11.7m to 13.1m.
The site is exposed, being on the top of a hill with 360o views, which meant the architects had to consider stability and safety during construction.
The specification also meant no compromise when it came to high levels of insulation and airtightness, which had to exceed building regulations.
As the owner was living on site during construction, the build time had to be fast and sourcing the materials locally was also vital. The client selected Glosford SIPS because it met the needs of the project and it was also competitively priced. The scope included the 172mm Kingspan TEK SIP wall and roof system, with all internal partitions and floors, plus all the required structural steel framing.
