International Women’s Day – A spotlight on Eithne Kelly, CEO of the Keystone Group

Join us as we learn a little more about Eithne and what advice she has for women in the construction industry.

Eithne, how long have you been with Keystone Group?

I joined the group in 1989 and have gradually evolved through the business, into the role I hold today. I have always had a very hands on approach, and my desire to understand the business at every level, has given me the grounding I needed to step into the CEO position. I have truly enjoyed my time here, and feel great satisfaction when I think back to what we as a team have achieved over the years.

How would you describe your leadership style?

I believe very much in inclusivity and collaboration. Every member of our team plays a vital role in our success, so I believe it is important to listen to every voice and take the time to understand and respect different views and perspectives. I always want to be viewed as someone who is approachable and available when anyone needs support.

Integrity and honesty are very important values to me as a leader, and over the years this has allowed me to grow my relationships with customers and partners, and strengthen our internal teams.

What was the biggest challenge you faced as a woman is leadership?

The industry has historically been a very male dominated environment, so taking time out to be a mother and be there for my children (and now grandchildren) has certainly been challenging at times. We must all find our own way to create balance, and for me that was bringing my family into the business with me. Everyone’s solution will be different, but finding a balance that works for you is important.

What advice would you give other women preparing for leadership roles?

Find a job you love that brings you joy, bring your passion and be patient. Every job will come with ups and downs, but if you remain flexible, adaptable and agile you will earn the respect of your team and you will begin to see where the true opportunities exist.
